Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign

Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible.

Here are some of the advantages of Invisalign clear aligners over traditional braces:

  • They’re virtually invisible, so others won’t notice you’re wearing them
  • Simply pop them out to eat whatever foods you want
  • Brushing and flossing are easy, since your aligners can be removed
  • There is no uncomfortable or sharp metal in your mouth, no rubber bands or wires
  • Office visits can be as few as every four to six weeks

How Invisalign works

If you’re a candidate for Invisalign, you can expect comfortable teeth straightening with a minimal impact on your everyday life and oral hygiene care. They’re easy to clean with your Invisalign Cleaning Kit or a regular toothbrush.

Dr. Radu bases the number of aligners and your total treatment time on your personal diagnosis and exam results.

Planning your Invisalign treatment

Dr. Radu takes X-rays and photos of your mouth, measures your bite and takes impressions of your teeth. He can also show you the images of how your teeth will move, and let you know how long your treatment plan is expected to take.

Invisalign then uses this information to custom-make your aligners.

Gradually straightening your teeth

Invisalign

During treatment, you will see Dr. Radu every six weeks so he can check on your progress and make any needed adjustments to your treatment.

Each time your aligner has gently adjusted your teeth to the desired position – approximately every two weeks – you simply pop in the next aligner in the series for further shifting of your teeth until it’s time for your six-week visit. During that checkup, Dr. Radu will give you your next set of aligners. In this way, your teeth gradually move into place until your straightening plan is completed.

Conditions Invisalign can fix

Misaligned teeth can not only affect your appearance, but can be the source of bite problems. Dr. Radu believes that proper occlusion (bite) is 50% of dentistry! This is because he knows that the uneven forces of a poor occlusion will damage teeth and even dental restorations.

Dr. Radu uses Invisalign to give you straight, beautiful teeth, integrating his technical know-how to even out your bite. Here are some of the conditions Invisalign can fix:

  • InvisalignOverly crowded

When there is not enough room in the mouth for all the teeth to fit properly, the result is crooked, sometimes overlapping teeth.

  • InvisalignOverbite

An overbite can cause gum problems and wear down the lower teeth. It can also cause jaw pain and joint problems.

  • InvisalignUnderbite

When the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth, this can lead to tooth wear and prevent normal function of front teeth – also causing painful joint and jaw issues.

  • InvisalignGaps in Teeth

Spacing issues and gaps in teeth can lead to increased risk of periodontal (gum) disease.

  • InvisalignOpen Bite

An open bite can cause poor or painful chewing and can also lead to TMJ problems. (The TMJ is the temporomandibular joint – the place where your upper and lower jaws are hinged together.)

  • InvisalignCrossbite

Crossbite can occur when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned and one or more upper teeth bite on the inside of the lower teeth. This can cause wear of the teeth, gum disease and bone loss.

Inman Aligner for front teeth

InvisalignIf the dental misalignment only involves your front teeth, Dr. Radu may recommend another treatment option instead of Invisalign. The patented Inman Aligner can be used to quickly and gently guide your teeth into position. The straightening can usually be effective in 6 to 18 weeks. The small, powerful device is removable so has little interference with your lifestyle.

Dr. Radu will answer all your questions and any concerns you may have about the alignment of your teeth. He goes over the options with you and works out the treatment plan that best fits your situation.
